The Church of Our Lady in front of the Bohemian gate was mentioned for the first time in 1345. It burnt down in 1361 and was rebuilt, but again destroyed in 1422. The church as it is today was built in around 1450. The chancel flooded with light is especially remarkable.

 Johanneskirche

The Johanneskirche in the south of the city is Freistadt’s oldest church. It still presents Romanesque influences and functions as a baptistery church. In 1385, Hans der Taschner, a citizen of Freistadt, donated the chancel and the fixtures in the chancel, his tombstone can be found there.
